What you want to do in the public space and why?

I want to create a series of large kangaroo sculptures (Kangaroos are on our coat of arms for the NT) that will be painted brightly to themes, fishing, waterfalls, sunsets, and storms. These would be placed in different areas around the city so people could walk around and find them, they become Instagrammable because of their size (human size). I want to do this because I think it will make walking around the city more fun and enhance.

How you will make this project happen?

I would have to design the sculptures of cubist kangaroos and get someone to make them out of steel or finer glass depending on if they need to be moved or if they are permanent. I like the idea of them being moved regularly around the city so they get discovered in different spots. Then I would paint them using sun shield paints. I would need approval from Council or building owners to have them secured to different spots around the city that need some arty life put into them.

When will the project start and finish? How long will it take?

I think it would take 3 months from start to finish. If they are going to move around the city to different spots that could go for a month? New spot each weekend

What permits or whose permission will you need to implement the project? What do you already have and what will you need to obtain?

I would need to approach Darwin city council and any local businesses who wouldn’t mind having the kangaroo in or around there shop? Not sure what else I’d need

How will you deliver the project, including how many people will be involved and any partnerships you have developed?

I would need to work with a fiberglass person and in collaboration with the City Council. I’d call for volunteers to help move the kangaroo to different locations.

How will you know your project is successful?

From people enjoying them, commenting, taking photos, you could have a Coat of Arms Kangas Instagram page and we could survey people and ask them.
