What you want to do in the public space and why?
We would like to install large screens in the shape of DRW in the same fashion that the Australian Open did this year. It was a hit down there and specific to Tennis, up here we can do similar but with Territorian themes animating within the letters.
How you will make this project happen?
Using local technical expertise, and talented motion graphics and effect artists to put together scenes that people can watch over and over.
When will the project start and finish? How long will it take?
If this is something that is desirable it makes sense to install during the wet season (can be waterproofed) to counteract the diminishing attendance of tourism during the wet season.
What permits or whose permission will you need to implement the project? What do you already have and what will you need to obtain?
Land owners, council. Graphics developed may have sensitivities but considering the vast amount of options this shouldn't be an issue.
How will you deliver the project, including how many people will be involved and any partnerships you have developed?
We would put together the technical side with another local screen technician and initialise the project with graphics of our own making, but open it up to other local artists to get their own screen time. By having callouts or competitions for works to end up on the screens this will further increase the amount of people that hear and hence visit the letters.
How will you know your project is successful?
This is inherently a 'share'-able experience and can reasonably effectively be measured in 'check-ins' and hashtags. Word also travels fast locally so it would be very easy to get local opinions also.
